Formula 18: Cough Ease Lozenges
Uses: Cough, Colds, Throat Dryness
Comments:
1/4 oz. powdered Elecampane
1/4 oz. crushed Mullein leaves
1/8 oz. powdered Osha root
1/8 oz. crushed Hibiscus flowers
1/16 oz. Anise seed
1/16 oz Cinnamon chips
1/2 gallon distilled water
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup Vegetable glycerin
Combine all the herbs and the water in a large enamel saucepan with a lid. Bring it to a boil covered, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain off the herbs, clean the saucepan thoroughly, then pour the tea back into the pan. Bring the tea to a simmer with the lid off and cook until the mixture is half of its original volume. Add the honey and glycerine and stir well. Using a candy thermometer to measure the temperature, bring the syrup to the hard ball stage. Drop the mixture by the spoonful onto a lightly oiled 9 x 13 glass pan, forming lozenge shaped candies. Let them set and cool, then store in an airtight container.
